Serving Tea in Jaipur
by Casey Felix
Rain-slicked sandstone pavement reflects the pale, diffused morning light as a street vendor adjusts a stack of terracotta bowls near a makeshift tea stall. Steam rises from a large metal kettle, mingling with the cool, wet air of early morning Jaipur. A customer in a bright kurta holds a small glass, waiting for the chai to pour, while nearby, a folded umbrella leans against a wall of faded pink plaster. The scene is busy but orderly, with colorful spices visible in open sacks and wet cobblestones glistening under the overcast sky. A threadbare cloth covers a nearby crate, adding texture to the vibrant, damp street life.
