Van Door in Edinburgh

Flat noon light washes over a wet Edinburgh pavement where a white van door stands open, revealing a chaotic interior of trade work. Inside, a red plastic tool caddy sits atop a stack of damp sandbags, its compartments spilling out screwdrivers and tape measures. One white ceramic mug rests precariously on the edge of the caddy, stained with coffee rings. Outside, a black coat brush leans against the van’s rear bumper, its bristles matted with gray city grit. The pause of labor, with the stark white of the van contrasting against the dark, rain-slicked asphalt and the rough texture of the worker’s heavy boots visible in the lower frame.
