Tweed Cap in Dublin in in Dublin, Ireland

Tweed Cap in Dublin

by Derrick Gillespie

First light spills across the wet cobblestones of a narrow Dublin lane, reflecting the faded green paint of a traditional Georgian doorframe slightly ajar. A heavy iron coat hook, rusted at the base, protrudes from the damp brick wall, holding a single sodden tweed flat cap that drips steadily onto the stone step below. The rain has stopped, leaving the air clear and the surfaces slick with a thin, glossy sheen. Inside the dim entryway, shadows stretch long and cool, against the bright, diffuse white light flooding the threshold.
