Taped Cases and Rejected Cartons Under Fluorescent Lights in inside a cross-dock lane in Amritsar

Taped Cases and Rejected Cartons Under Fluorescent Lights

by Eileen Ibarra

Stark fluorescent tubes cast a cool, clinical glow over a concrete floor in an Amritsar cross-dock lane. Rows of brown cardboard cases, sealed with thick clear tape, align in disciplined formation, stretching toward a distant vanishing point. Beside them, a cluster of rejected cartons lies scattered, their flaps torn open and edges crumpled. Condensation beads along the lower pane of a nearby glass partition, hinting at the midsummer heat outside pressing against the cooled interior air. The overhead strip lights create sharp, linear shadows that emphasize the rigid geometry of the pallets and the worn texture of the gray floor. One scuff mark on the concrete near the rejected pile marks the path of a recent forklift tire.
