Tamarind Tree in Maine Twilight Haze
by Pamela Cohen
Cool indigo light washes over the feathery compound leaves of a tamarind tree standing alone in a Maine landscape. The sky holds a deep blue hue typical of the blue hour, casting soft shadows beneath the canopy. Clusters of brown seed pods hang densely from the slender branches, their rough texture visible against the fading daylight. A shimmering heat haze distorts the air around the trunk, creating a wavering visual effect that blurs the boundary between the tree and the background. The ground below is a mix of green grass and patches of bare earth, slightly out of focus. The electric excitement of the season is visible in the vibrant green of the fresh foliage, against the darkening sky. One shadow stretches across the grass, sharp and distinct near the base before softening in the haze.
