Flat noon light bleaches the color from a narrow service alley in Casablanca, highlighting the stark geometry of white stucco walls and faded green shutters. A woman in a loose white djellaba leans over a metal sink, her hands submerged in soapy water, scrubbing a stack of heavy clay tagine pots that gleam with wet, speckled stoneware glaze. Beside her, a rusted dish rack holds drying ceramics, their earthy tones against the bright, washed-out surroundings. One bar of soap rests on the edge, slick and pale, while a discarded pottery shard lies near her feet, embedded in the dusty concrete.
