Pale wooden sushi paddles rest in orderly rows along a front-of-store display run in Kuantan. Bright midmorning light bounces off pale walls, casting soft, even illumination across the wooden surfaces. The grain shows subtle variations in tone, while reflections glimmer on the smooth edges of the display case. Converging lines stretch toward a vanishing point deep into the store, revealing the length of the counter. At the turn of seasons, the arrangement remains still and functional. One shadow falls across the edge of the nearest paddle, marking the base of the shelf where the wood meets the metal frame.
