Orange sunset light pools across the concrete floor of a strength room near Negombo, illuminating a metal brush tray filled with soapy water. A scrubbing brush rests inside the tray beside a wet kettlebell handle gleaming with a slick sheen. Cool shadows stretch along the walls where the fading sun cannot reach, against the bright patches of orange and yellow on the rubber matting. Dust particles drift slowly in the shafts of light, suspended in the still air of the cool season. The water surface in the tray remains undisturbed, mirroring the window frame above. A small ripple forms at the edge of the tray where the light hits the soapy rim.
