Sunlight cuts sharply through the canopy of a mature plane tree on a quiet Seoul side street, casting dappled shadows across a low stone wall where three students have gathered. A crumpled plastic picnic blanket anchors their cluster, serving as a makeshift table for a spread of convenience store snacks and half-empty aluminum beer cans. One student holds a clear plastic cup, tilting it to catch the light, while another laughs, gesturing with a bent straw. Behind them, the clean white facade of a modern apartment building contrasts with the rough bark of the tree. A red fire hydrant stands near the curb, marking the edge of the sidewalk where the afternoon heat still lingers on the asphalt.
