Street Stall in Salvador in in Salvador, Brazil

Street Stall in Salvador

by Avery Stewart

Rain-slicked cobblestones of Pelourinho reflect the pale, diffused first light, washing the facades in muted pastels. A vendor’s stall, sheltered by a corrugated tin awning, displays a chaotic pile of woven baskets and bright ceramic bowls, their glazes gleaming wet. Near the edge of the frame, a faded red coat hangs from a rusted iron hook, its fabric heavy with dampness, while a few geraniums in chipped clay pots spill over a low wall, their leaves dark and glossy.
