The cool stillness of pre-dawn Delhi settles over a narrow lane in the older part of the city. A parked two-wheeler scooter stands idle on the damp asphalt, its chrome mirrors reflecting the dim, gray light. Nearby, a small tea stall is just beginning to set up, with steam rising faintly from a metal kettle. A few plastic stools are stacked against the wall of a nearby building, which shows signs of age with peeling paint. A tree branch hangs low over the street, its leaves still dark against the early sky.
