Street Cleaner in Krakow
by Gary Lynch
A damp, grey dawn light diffuses through the heavy mist clinging to the cobblestones of Krakow’s Main Market Square, softening the edges of the Gothic spires in the distance. In the foreground, a street cleaner in a high-visibility vest pauses beside a metal cart, the handle of a worn mop resting against the rusted hinge screws of the cart’s side panel. The wet stone reflects the dull glow of a distant streetlamp, highlighting the texture of the mossy masonry and the slick sheen of the pavement. A wooden crate sits overturned near the curb, its rough grain against the smooth, cold metal of the cleaning equipment.
