A local shopkeeper, wrapped in a heavy wool coat, leans over a low stone wall, using a stiff scrub brush to clear debris from a narrow drainage grate. Beside him, a white dog sits patiently, its fur damp and matted, watching the water swirl away. A woven basket filled with empty glass canisters rests on the sidewalk nearby, its fibers catching the faint, diffused light.
