Misty dawn in Bangkok wraps the street in a cool, grey haze, softening the harsh edges of a nearby concrete soi. A lone cyclist pedals past, their silhouette blurred by the damp air and motion, wearing a bright yellow safety vest that cuts through the gloom. On the sidewalk, a street vendor’s metal cart steams gently, the soft steam clouding a window edge of a passing delivery scooter parked nearby. The ground is slick with recent rain, reflecting the neon sign of a 7-Eleven in streaks of red and blue. Rattan chairs are stacked neatly against a shopfront, waiting for the day’s heat, while a glass tumbler sits empty on a plastic stool, condensation beading on its surface.
