Street Vendor in Bangkok at First Light

by Zachary Stout

First light falls through heavy monsoon clouds, casting a cool, diffused glow over a bustling Bangkok street corner where rain has just ceased. A vendor stands behind a makeshift stall, steam rising from a silver electric kettle placed next to a stack of glossy terracotta bowls. The wet asphalt reflects the neon signs of nearby shops, creating streaks of red and blue light on the puddles. A few pedestrians with clear umbrellas hurry past, their movements blurred by the damp morning air. The immediate aftermath of rain, with water droplets clinging to the plastic tarps covering the goods and the vendor’s focused expression as he prepares a hot drink for the early commuters.
