Stray Cat in Madrid
by Priya Villa
Low-angle street view shows a narrow Madrid alleyway lit by the pale, directional light of early morning. A weathered stucco wall on the right is draped with vibrant bougainvillea, its magenta blooms contrasting sharply with the warm ochre plaster. Beneath the foliage, a wrought-iron balcony railing shows signs of rust and age, leading the eye down to the cobblestone pavement where shadows are long and soft. A small, scruffy stray cat sits alert on a stone step, looking toward the open plaza. In the background, the facade of a traditional building features a wooden door painted in faded red lacquer, slightly ajar, revealing a glimpse of a dark interior.
