Under the flat, diffused light of an overcast Montreal midday, a corner of a local épicerie displays a chaotic but inviting arrangement of goods. A wire magazine rack, bent slightly from years of use, holds glossy travel guides and local newspapers, leaning against a stack of woven placemats intended for café tables. Beside them, a small wooden crate overflows with bright yellow bananas, their curved shapes against the rigid geometry of the rack. One, faded wool scarf hangs from a hook nearby, its texture soft against the hard metal.
