Bistro Table in Montreal

Under the neon spill of a Plateau streetlamp, a small bistro table is cluttered with the remnants of a late dinner. Two empty glass tumblers catch the red and blue light from a nearby pharmacy sign, their rims smeared with condensation. One carrot, peeled and discarded, lies next to a crumpled napkin on the checkered tablecloth. In the background, the curved wrought-iron staircase of a traditional Montreal duplex rises into the dark, its metal railings slick with evening dampness.
