Still Life in San Diego

Sunlight slants across a weathered stucco wall in a Mission Hills courtyard, illuminating a tangle of green garden hose coiled loosely around a rusted metal post. Beside it, a stack of hand towels in faded indigo and white rests on a low concrete ledge, their frayed edges catching the late afternoon glow. A vintage Italian majolica plate, chipped at the rim, sits upside down on a nearby planter box, its cobalt and yellow glaze reflecting the warm light. In the background, a wooden bench holds a single book, open and forgotten, its pages fluttering slightly in the breeze.
