Sunlight slants through a second-story window of a sandstone building on Barrington Street, illuminating a cluttered kitchen counter where a porcelain jar sits beside a steam-hazed saucepan. A tabby cat stretches across the warm laminate, paws resting near a scattered deck of cards left mid-game. Outside, the late afternoon glow catches the wet pavement of the historic district, while inside, the steam rises in thin, erratic wisps, blurring the edge of a nail brush left on the drying rack. A quiet domestic pause, framed by the rough texture of the exterior stone and the smooth, reflective surfaces of the kitchenware, with the cat’s fur catching the golden light.
