Steaming Kettle in Merida
by Ada Thomas
A medium shot shows a weathered wooden counter in a Merida shop, lit by the deep indigo glow of a summer evening. A brass wall sconce casts warm, focused light onto a surface scarred with thin scratches from years of use. Beside a stack of hand-painted ceramic tiles, an electric kettle steams gently, its metal body reflecting the ambient street light. Linen curtains hang limp in the background, filtering the last heat of the day. A hand reaches in to adjust the kettle, at the base of the scene in quiet domestic routine. The contrast between the rough wood and smooth ceramic highlights the texture of daily life in this Yucatecan space.
