Spiraling Atrium Dawn Rays Old Dhaka

by Irina Nava

Low-hanging clouds filter the first rays of sunrise into the vaulted interior of a spiraling museum atrium near Old Dhaka. Early winter light casts sharp, angled beams across concrete steps that curve upward in a continuous geometric rhythm. Dust motes swirl visibly within the illuminated columns, highlighting the rough texture of the stone surfaces. The spiral architecture creates strong leading lines that draw the gaze toward the high ceiling, where the sky remains a muted grey-blue. Sunlight touches the lower walls in patches of warm orange, against the cool shadows in the recesses. The floor reflects the ascending light, at the base of the structure in a tactile, earthy presence.
