Flat noon light bleaches the exterior of a weathered brick shopfront in a Johannesburg suburb, where a florist’s display spills onto the dusty pavement. A woman in a bright yellow headscarf sorts through a wicker hamper filled with sun-bleached bouquets, her hands moving with practiced ease among the stems. Behind her, terracotta bowls hold cut eucalyptus, their earthy reds contrasting sharply with the pale, peeling plaster wall. Dappled leaf shadows from a nearby jacaranda tree stretch across the tiled floor, creating a mosaic of dark and light that breaks up the harsh glare.
