Sleeping Cat in Kathmandu

Winter noon light strikes the peeling yellow paint of a roadside workshop in Thamel, revealing layers of older green undercoat on the scuffed painted wood of a shuttered frame. Inside the narrow gap, a black cat sleeps curled on a stack of woven mats, its fur catching the harsh, dry sunlight that pours over the corrugated tin roof. A nickel latch on the adjacent door catches a sharp glint of reflection, against the dull matte finish of a nearby tea canister resting on a low concrete ledge.
