Sizzling Bánh Xèo on Ceramic Plate Dawn Light
by Edith Downs
Cool, pre-sunrise light floods a round ceramic plate holding a golden-brown bánh xèo pancake, its edges curled and crisp against the white glaze. The dish sits near a window frame, where the pale dawn casts a soft, blue-tinted sheen across the metal pan beneath. Steam rises visibly from the center of the crepe, curling upward into the still morning air. A small pile of fresh green herbs rests beside the folded pancake, their vibrant color sharp against the warm yellows of the fried batter. The cool season is evident in the faint mist clinging to the glass pane just outside, while the indoor warmth keeps the food steaming. one drop of oil glistens on the rim of the ceramic, catching the dim light. The three-quarter angle reveals the texture of the crispy exterior and the soft interior filling.
