Silhouetted Radar Truck on Naval Deck in Sleet
by Claudia Dyer
The last blue light of evening washes the naval deck, turning a large camouflage-painted radar truck into a dark, solid silhouette. Heavy sleet falls in diagonal streaks, catching the dim backlight to create a shimmering curtain of white droplets against the deepening gray sky. Thick cables snake across the wet metal floor, their reflections faint and broken by the falling precipitation. The truck's angular shape stands rigid against the wind, its painted surfaces obscured by the shadows and the driving rain. Humid air hangs low over the deck, visible only as a slight haze softening the distant horizon. The scene holds a heavy, institutional gravity, defined by the stark contrast between the mechanical form and the chaotic weather. at the edge is the way a single cable loop rests heavily on the slick deck, mirroring the stillness of the vehicle.
