Silhouetted Cat Slinks Past Neon in Delhi Alley
by Alma Dunlap
Silver rain slicks the cracked concrete of a narrow Delhi underpass, turning scattered puddles into distorted mirrors for hanging neon signs. A black cat moves through the scene, its form reduced to a dark silhouette against the cool blue twilight of the winter evening. The animal slips past a glowing red and blue sign, its reflection stretching and breaking in the oily water below. Above, a single flickering bulb casts a harsh, intermittent white light that briefly illuminates the wet fur and the grime on the walls. The pavement glistens with a fine sheen of drizzle, catching the edge of the cat's tail as it disappears into the shadowed recess of the alley.
