Shop Workbench in Alexandria

A sun-bleached corner of a traditional Alexandrian coffee shop reveals a lived-in service area where a wooden workbench bears the scars of daily use. Resting on the scarred surface are a pair of metal kitchen tongs and a small pile of dried dates, their brown skins wrinkled under the harsh noon light. Behind the bench, a spindle chair stands empty, its curved back catching the bright, flat winter sun that floods the open doorway. Through the frame, the deep blue of the Mediterranean Sea stretches to the horizon, against the warm, dusty tones of the interior.
