Bright late morning light floods a narrow Delhi lane, illuminating a baker in a white cotton kurta as he slides a tray of golden parathas from a tandoor into a waiting aluminum basket. The heat haze shimmers above the clay oven, against the cool, deep blue of a nearby shop shutter. Above the baker’s head, vibrant magenta bougainvillea spills over a weathered concrete parapet, its papery petals catching the harsh sunlight. A stack of steel mixing bowls sits empty on a low wooden stool nearby, their surfaces reflecting the dusty street.
