Service Items in Porto
by Erika Pugh
A narrow Porto alleyway glows under the amber wash of sodium streetlights, where a small sidewalk cafe has spilled its evening service onto the iconic calçada pavement. In the immediate foreground, a stack of ceramic plates and a wire mesh colander sit precariously on a wooden crate, their surfaces reflecting the neon blue spill from a nearby pharmacy sign. Behind them, the deep blue shadows of a vine-covered wall stretch across the white and black geometric tiles, creating a rhythmic pattern that leads toward a dimly lit doorway. A waiter’s hand reaches into the frame to adjust a cooler jug filled with ice, catching a brief glint of light as he prepares for the next rush of customers.
