Under the flat, diffused light of an overcast midday, a street vendor in a faded blue jacket balances a wooden crate of bright orange nectarines on a wheeled cart, the fruit’s fuzzy skins against the cracked, peeling paint of a nearby stucco wall. A small, dented tin box sits open on the cart’s edge, revealing a collection of crumpled paper bills and loose coins, while a plastic bottle of dark soy sauce leans precariously against a stack of white enamel bowls. The vendor’s hands, dusted with flour, adjust a scale, capturing a mundane transaction in a narrow alley where the damp concrete reflects the dull sky.
