Securing Tables in Seattle

Mist clings heavily to the wet asphalt of a Pioneer Square alley, diffusing the amber glow of a distant streetlamp into a hazy halo. A brown dog stands alert near the curb, its fur damp and dark, watching a vendor secure a stack of white folding tables against a brick wall scarred by decades of rain. The vendor’s hands, gloved in worn rubber, tighten a strap on a metal frame, while a discarded paper cup sits abandoned on the pavement, its rim stained with old coffee. Raindrops ripple in a shallow puddle near the dog’s paws, catching the faint reflection of neon signage from a nearby bar.
