Rubber Latex Cups Dripping in Evening Light in along a salt-sprayed cliff edge in Hunan

Rubber Latex Cups Dripping in Evening Light

by Rhonda Fisher

Golden honeyed light washes over a weathered rubber processing shed perched on a salt-sprayed cliff edge in Hunan. Rows of small white cups hang beneath tapped rubber trees, each catching a steady stream of milky latex dripping from incised bark. Midsummer greenery frames the structure, against the sudden, gentle fall of snowflakes that dust the wooden roof and rest on the dark bark. The shed's corrugated metal roof reflects the fading daylight, while snowflakes drift across the warm glow, creating a rare visual collision of seasons. Latex pools slowly in the cups, their viscous surface catching the last rays of the sun before nightfall. One snowflake rests on the rim of a cup, melting into the white fluid below.
