A narrow Hyderabad street corner glows under the harsh orange sodium vapor of a streetlamp, casting long, sharp shadows against the peeling lime-wash of a colonial-era bungalow. A young man balances precariously on a battered metal step stool, his back to the camera as he adjusts a tangled mess of electrical wires near a flickering signboard. Below him, the wet asphalt reflects the neon pink of a nearby tea stall, mixing with the dull yellow of the overhead light. A plastic paring knife lies discarded on a nearby ledge, its blade catching a stray glint of light, while a small ceramic bowl sits empty beside it, likely used for holding spare screws or nuts.
