Repairing Scooter in Bangkok

Under the harsh, flat noon light of a Bangkok soi, a street-side mechanic crouches beside a parked scooter, his hands stained with grease as he adjusts a carburetor bolt. Beside him, a faded blue tool roll lies open on the cracked concrete, spilling out a few scattered wrenches and a charcoal stick used for marking metal. A white dog rests in the shallow shade of a neighboring shop’s awning, eyes half-closed against the heat, while the rhythmic pattern of light filtering through woven cane blinds above casts striped shadows across the mechanic’s back.
