Bright Nairobi midday light hits a cluttered roadside repair stall where a mechanic balances a dented metal rim on a wooden crate, the steel catching a sharp glint against the dusty ground. A striped towel, stained with grease, hangs from a rusted table fan mounted to the wall, its blades still. Nearby, a bottle of engine oil sits beside a mixing spoon resting on a workbench, while a deck of cards lies face up, abandoned mid-game. Laundry pins cling to a wire, holding a pair of work gloves against the heat.
