Stall Clutter in Surabaya
Under the flat, shadowless glare of a Surabaya noon, a motorbike repair stall hums with chaotic utility. A faded blue cabinet, its latch corroded with orange rust, sits open beside a workbench cluttered with wrenches and oil stains. A white tea towel, damp and wrinkled, is draped over a stack of local motorcycle manuals, while a dusty biscuit tin rests precariously on the edge, leaking a few loose screws. The scene is anchored by the worn leather seat of a waiting scooter, its surface cracked from sun exposure, against the bright, peeling yellow paint of the stall’s corrugated metal roof. The light is harsh and direct, exposing every layer of grime and repair tape in high-contrast detail.
