Red Geraniums in New York

A weathered wooden windowsill in a Manhattan apartment catches the low golden light of a warm late afternoon. Two bright red geraniums in terracotta pots sit side by side, their green leaves glowing with translucence. A small white kitchen timer rests on the sill between the plants, its dial set to zero. Dust motes dance in the sunbeams that stream through the slightly fogged glass pane above.
