Rattan Chair in Phnom Penh
by Karen Molina
A woven rattan chair sits on a concrete balcony ledge, its curved back catching the warm, low-angle sunlight of the golden hour. The light pools along the rough edge of the seat, highlighting the intricate texture of the natural fibers and casting long, sharp shadows against the weathered wall behind it. To the right, a small ceramic basin rests on the floor, its interior stained with faint, white mineral rings from previous use. The deep orange glow of the setting sun reflects off the smooth, glazed surface of the basin, against the matte finish of the chair. One, dry leaf lies on the concrete near the chair leg, adding a touch of organic detail to the urban setting.
