Ranch Worker Organizing Cattle Ear Tags Near Water Trough
Dust motes float in the flat, harsh glare of noon sunlight illuminating a weathered wooden drawer pulled open against a corrugated metal wall. The drawer, stained with decades of grease and dirt, reveals rows of plastic cattle ear tags in faded red and blue. Behind the wooden slats, a shallow water trough holds stagnant, algae-tinted water reflecting the pale sky. The ground is packed red clay, hard and cracked in late autumn, with patches of dried mud clinging to the bottom of the trough. Humid air hangs heavy, visible as a slight shimmer above the warm metal surfaces. A metal latch on the drawer catches the light, its rusted edge against the smooth, cool plastic of the tags waiting to be used. The scene rests on the practical reality of livestock care in a rural Bihar setting.
