Dairy Pen at Dawn with Infinite Pipeline Tags in along a feedlot lane in Pakistan

Dairy Pen at Dawn with Infinite Pipeline Tags

by Leah Lambert

Soft overcast dawn light diffuses across a scraped concrete holding pen where fresh bedding pushes to the curb. Hoof marks churn the earth near a water trough lined with metal pipeline tags. A thick layer of ground fog pools in the low depressions of the lane, obscuring the immediate foreground while revealing layers of depth receding into the distance. Along the feedlot wall, hundreds of identical metal tags duplicate in a rigid grid, stretching endlessly into the hazy autumn mist. The cold air holds no movement, only the stillness of the churned ground and the repetitive, impossible geometry of the metal tags rising from the fog. One hoof print rests deep in the wet mud beside the water's edge.
