The still hours before dawn cast a deep blue hue over the Quebec City Old Port, where a massive canal lock gate stands partially closed against the dark green water. Steam rises faintly from the damp stone embankments, mingling with the cool morning air. The heavy iron mechanisms of the lock are visible in the dim light, reflecting off the still surface of the canal. In the background, the silhouette of historic buildings along the waterfront is barely discernible against the darkening sky. The quiet industrial infrastructure of the port, showing the texture of wet stone and the movement of water within the confined space of the lock system.
