Qingdao Garden Center Checkout With Ceramic Trays

Flat fluorescent lights wash the checkout lane in a cool, even glow that eliminates harsh shadows. Stacks of unglazed ceramic trays line the counter, their rough, earthy surfaces against the smooth laminate of the register. A rolling metal ladder stands ready against the wall, its silver rungs reflecting the overhead fixtures. Outside the large glass windows, the monsoon rain blurs the view of green foliage into soft greens and grays. Quiet shadows pool along the baseboards, at the base of the space in a functional, everyday rhythm. The symmetry of the stacked goods creates a visual order amidst the wet, cloudy afternoon.
