Pushing Cart in Bologna

A misty dawn settles over Bologna’s narrow Via Zamboni, where the heavy dampness softens the edges of ochre stucco and weathered brick facades. The street is empty of traffic, save for a lone baker pushing a metal cart with large wooden crates toward a dimly lit bakery entrance. Steam rises from a vent near the curb, mixing with the low-hanging fog that rests on the wet cobblestones. A folding ruler leans casually against the cart’s wheel, its yellow markings stark against the grey morning light. Above, a terracotta bowl sits on a windowsill, catching the faint, diffused glow of a streetlamp.
