Flat gray light from overcast monsoon skies washes across wet cobblestones where a weathered protest drum rests beside a cluster of small white candles. The drum skin appears dull and worn, against the sheen of rain-slicked pavement that reflects the low-hanging clouds. Melted wax pools surround the candle bases, their flames steady against the humid air. Behind the objects, metal barricades form a rigid barrier along the street, separating the quiet vigil from the open road. A faded political sign leans against the stone wall, its letters worn by the elements. A drop of water rolls down the drum's metal rim, merging with the puddle at its base.
