Under the harsh, flat noon light of a Phuket roadside stall, a vendor’s hand reaches for a plastic dustpan resting on a wet concrete counter. The scene is anchored by a row of colorful majolica plates stacked precariously near a dripping tap, their glazed surfaces reflecting the diffuse sky. A folding fan lies open beside a pile of unpeeled lemons, their bright yellow skins against the dull gray of the pavement. Leaf shadows from a nearby frangipani tree stretch across the tiled floor, broken by the vendor’s worn sandals.
