Under the sodium-orange wash of a streetlamp in Athens, a small family-owned bakery counter glows with activity. A baker’s hands, dusted with flour, slide a tray of golden, sesame-crusted vasilopita onto a stainless steel shelf, the steam rising in the cool night air. Behind him, shelves are stacked with glass jars of honey and thyme, catching the reflected light from the open door. Outside, the blurred shapes of pedestrians pass by, their movements softened by the motion of the camera. A worn wooden sign hangs above, listing prices in Greek script.
