Neon reflections from a nearby kiosk pool across a wet concrete sidewalk in Alexandria, where a street vendor’s cart glows under harsh fluorescent tubes. A stack of clean white plates sits beside a cast-iron skillet, its surface still warm and oily, while a folded apron rests on a plastic crate nearby. The vendor, partially obscured by steam rising from the griddle, adjusts a deadbolt on the cart’s metal door with one hand while stirring with the other. Behind him, a faded blue shutter is half-closed, revealing glimpses of tangled electrical wires and a distant minaret silhouette against the dark sky.
