Prep Station in Copenhagen

by Gabriela Wood

Just after sunrise, the low-angle light catches a Copenhagen bakery’s stainless steel prep station, where a baker’s hands work with practiced speed. A brass colander sits half-filled with flour-dusted dough, while a wooden measuring tape lies coiled near a smear of soap residue around the drain, evidence of the morning’s wash. The darkened wood grain of the workbench, polished by years of use, contrasts with the cool metal. Outside the large glass window, the damp cobblestones of the street reflect the pale blue sky, and a single bougainvillea vine spills over a neighboring balcony, adding a splash of unexpected pink against the grey Nordic morning.
