Predawn darkness wraps the edges of a Guadalajara courtyard where a young dancer stands illuminated by the warm glow of nearby fire. Sweat beads glisten on the dancer's forehead and cheeks, catching the flickering orange light against the cool, damp air of the monsoon season. Thick kohl lines the dancer's eyes, dark and sharp against skin warmed by the flames. Raindrops from a brief sun shower hang suspended in the air or dot the dancer's skin, creating tiny highlights. The background melts into soft, indistinct shadows of adobe walls and tropical foliage, leaving the focus entirely on the dancer's intense, still expression. One droplet of water rests on the dancer's lower lip, reflecting the firelight.
